A peek into the past

22 May 2025

Advocacy 1st Luton’s social isolation group enjoyed an afternoon at Wardown Park Museum. The Victorian era setting offered a unique chance for our group to connect with local history, explore images and artefacts, and benefit from a change of environment.

Talking and learning together

The aim of this visit was to help build confidence, encourage social interaction, and reinforce a sense of community. It was a meaningful step in reducing social isolation and connecting with new people.

We had accessible activity sheets, which group members discussed together. We also made time to pause, reflect, take photos, and create memories.

Safe space for all

Our social integration group includes people from different backgrounds. We are pleased that people who might not ordinarily spend time with each other told us that they all felt safe, supported and included.

For us, visiting an impressive Grade 2 listed building such as Wardown Park Museum was about more than seeing how the past is preserved. We were keen for our group members to build the confidence to step away form their normal routines, to look at things they don’t usually see, and to connect with a wider community.
